Additional $35,000 for Summer Students: Economic Action Plan will Provide Additional Funding for Canada Summer Jobs
March 13, 2009
Ottawa - On January 27th, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative government introduced Canada’s Economic Action Plan.  As part of Canada’s Economic Plan, an additional $20 Million will be available to Canada Summer Jobs over the next 2 years, to help support summer youth employment across Canada. In addition to the $199,136 provided to Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, a further $35,079 has been announced to support youth employment in our Community.

“It is important that we continue to support young people in our community,” said Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MP Guy Lauzon. “This additional funding will assist in job creation in all sectors in providing more summer jobs for students.”

Canada Summer Jobs is just one way Canada’s Conservative government is supporting students:
  • Since 2006 an additional $1 billion dollars in social transfers to the provinces has been earmarked for post-secondary education.
  • Providing a 20-percent grant on contributions made to a Registered Education Savings Plans to help Canadian families put money aside for their children’s higher learning.
  • Consolidating the Canada Student Grant Program, which will provide $250 every month for low-income students, and $100 a month for students from middle-income families.
  • Committing $123 million over four years starting in 2009-2010 to streamline and modernize the Canada Student Loans Program.
