Tax Freedom Day
June 28, 2010
Last week I was thrilled to hear that the Fraser Institute announced that Tax Freedom Day arrived on June 5th this year, 14 days earlier since the Conservative Government was first elected in January 2006! Tax Freedom Day is the day that you have earned enough money to pay your taxes. This means that the constituents of SD & SG are keeping the equvalent of two weeks more of their hard earned money in their own pockets. You deseve it!

Tax Freedom Day has arrived earlier due to our Governmemt's commitment to reducing the tax burden on hardworking Canadians and businesses. We have cut over 100 taxes, reducing the overall tax burden on Canadians by $ 220 billion since elected.

We have built a legacy of tax relief by cutting taxes in every way government collects them which has reduced the tax burden to its lowest level in nearly 50 years. These tax cuts have saved the typical family over $3,000 per year! Lower income tax rates and lowering the GST to 5% are just two examples. Further, we have removed over 1 million low-income Canadians completely from the tax rolls.

We are leaving more money in the pockets of Canadians and are giving businesses more freedom to create jobs and make further investments. I think these cuts have been crucial in ensuring Canada recovers from the recession stronger than before. We went into the recession later than other countries and came out of it sooner and stronger. Reducing taxes helps build a solid foundation for future economic growth, more jobs, and higher living standards for Canadians. As Member of Parliament for SD & SG, I will continue to work hard to ensure more money is left in your pockets, where it belongs!
