Ottawa – Yesterday, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff finally admitted his agenda to raise taxes on all Canadians at a Cambridge Ontario Chamber of Commerce meeting. Ignatieff confessed that a federal tax increase would be part of a liberal government agenda. “We will have to raise taxes,” - Michael Ignatieff, (Kitchener Waterloo Record, April 14, 2009).
“Canadians on average already pay 45% of their incomes to government each year,” MP Lauzon said. “At this time of economic uncertainty a tax hike is not the way to stimulate the economy or create jobs, everyone knows that.”
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has praised the Government of Canada’s actions through Canada’s Economic Action Plan to stimulate the Canadian economy and combat the global recession. To quote from an IMF statement last month “Canada is better placed than many countries to weather the global financial turbulence and worldwide recession, thanks to sound policy management and proactive steps to maintain economic and financial stability.”
This is not the first time Liberal Leader Ignatieff has slipped and exposed the Liberal’s agenda to raise taxes on Canadians. He describes himself as a “tax-and-spend, Pearsonian Trudeau Liberal” (Toronto Star, November 20, 2004) and admitted under a Liberal Government an increase in the GST will remain on the table. “I’m not going to take a GST hike off the table,” – Michael Ignatieff (City TV News, December 18, 2008).
