Shovels in the ground along the Belmeade road
October 16, 2009

WINCHESTER, ON
- MP Guy Lauzon, MP Pierre Poilievre, and MPP Jim Brownell today gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Belmeade Road along the boundary of the Township of North Dundas and the City of Ottawa.

“Our Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, is making smart investments that will inject additional capital into our economy and keep people working during these tough economic times,” said MP Lauzon. “This is a project that is going to accomplish two great things- local construction jobs in our community, and it is going to fix a problem road in both municipalities. I have heard from many constituents about the problems of this road, so I am glad to see our hard working advocating for this project has paid off.”

“I am pleased to see a collaborative effort from our governments to improve transportation opportunities, and to ensure the citizens of the riding have the safest, most efficient infrastructure possible.” said MPP Jim Brownell “By working together on infrastructure projects, such as this reconstruction of Belmeade Road, we are creating jobs, stimulating the economy and the increasing the quality of life in our communities.”

“The reconstruction of Belmeade Road is one of the most important projects for our community in the past decade,” said Osgoode Ward Councillor Doug Thompson. “I am so pleased to see the outstanding cooperation between the Federal/Provincial Governments along with the Township of North Dundas and the City of Ottawa.”

“This is a great project that has addresses a problem road that has been around for literally decades,” said North Dundas Mayor Alvin Runnalls. “The residents on Belemeade Road, and those who use it daily, are going to appreciate the final product- it will be quite an improvement!”

This reconstruction of the Belmeade Road is one of many infrastructure investments being funded across Ontario. This project will add thousands of tonnes of gravel to the stretch of road between County Road 31 and County Rd 1. In addition, the entire road will be ‘tar and chipped’ with the funding as well.

The Governments of Canada, the Province of Ontario, the Township of North Dundas, and the City of Ottawa have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects that can be completed by March 31, 2011. Canada and Ontario are working together to create jobs and boost the economy, while making significant investments that help communities improve their infrastructure. They have agreed to work together to ensure that these funds are delivered quickly and efficiently.
