A Successful Royal Tour
July 12, 2010

Last week Her Majesty the Queen of Canada and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh completed their highly successful Royal Tour of Canada. I was delighted by the warm and enthusiastic welcome Canadians gave Her Majesty and His Royal Highness as they travelled through Halifax, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ottawa, Waterloo and Toronto.

During her tour, Her Majesty the Queen highlighted the Canadian record of service by participating in activities marking the Canadian Navy Centennial. Her Majesty also took part in the Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill and dedicated the cornerstone for the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg.

Throughout the Royal Tour, Her Majesty emphasized the special affection she holds for Canada and spoke of the pride and admiration she has for our remarkable nation. I would like to commend Her Majesty for her service and dedication to Canada for nearly six decades.

I believe this tour gave Canadians the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with our constitutional monarchy which is an integral part of our history, traditions, and institutions. This tour has been an inspiration for Canadians of all ages to help build a country and a society in which we take pride.
