Dion’s “Deplorable” Tax Trick
July 14, 2008

Before labeling those who dare question him as being “deplorable”, Stéphane Dion should perhaps step outside of his glass house.

Some people would say it is “deplorable” that Stéphane Dion would, once upon a time, crusade against carbon taxes and consistently reassure Canadians that he would never impose a carbon tax only to blatantly go back on his word and try to trick people into paying the largest carbon tax in Canadian history.

Others would say it is “deplorable” that Stéphane Dion would try to bait-and-switch Canadians by promising time and time again that his plan would not impact gas prices, only to turn around and concede, when cornered, that the Dion Carbon Tax will drive gas prices up.

Still others would say it is “deplorable” that Stéphane Dion’s senior communication advisor, Garth Turner, would respond to legitimate criticisms of the Dion Tax Trick by labeling ordinary people as “self-aggrandizing, hostile, me-first, greedy, macho, selfish and balkanizing separatist losers.”

While others would say that it is “deplorable” that Stéphane Dion would spend so much energy talking about the environment when his carbon tax plan fails to include a single greenhouse gas reduction target.

And still more people would say that it is “deplorable” that Stéphane Dion would promise his plan is “revenue neutral” when that same plan’s fine print proves that he intends to use his Tax Trick to pay for out-of-control Liberal spending.

And of course, more and more Canadians are right to consider it “deplorable” that Stéphane Dion would try so hard to trick them into paying a permanent new carbon tax in the first place. After all, the Dion Carbon Tax will permanently drive up the cost of gas, electricity, groceries and everything else Canadians buy.

Arrogance, entitlement and double standards are alive and well in the Liberal Party. These are the qualities that gave Canadians the Liberal Sponsorship Scandal. Now these same qualities are giving Canadians the Dion Tax Trick as well.
