Government of Canada supports the Upper Canada Playhouse

MORRISBURG- The Government of Canada is providing the Upper Canada Playhouse with $97,500 in funding, through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, to support the construction of an extension to the main Upper Canada Playhouse theatre.

Guy Lauzon, Member of Parliament (Stormont–Dundas–South Glengarry), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

  • The Upper Canada Playhouse is a professional theatre company that was established in 1983 in a converted factory in the Village of Morrisburg, Ontario
  • The funding will support the construction of a professional rehearsal hall for productions and a local venue for performances, which will increase the theatre’s capacity to deliver professional theatre.
  • The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund supports the improvement, renovation and construction of arts and heritage facilities and the acquisition of specialized equipment. It is also designed to increase access for Canadians to performing, visual and media arts and to museum collections and heritage displays.
