I am thrilled to once again put out a call for the Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry Service Awards. This will mark the third annual installment of these awards which began during the Canada 150 celebrations as a way for us all to highlight and celebrate the selfless individuals who donate their time and effort to make our communities a better place to live.
Volunteerism is at the core of what it means to be Canadian. Giving back, so that we are leaving our communities better off than when we found them. Volunteers don’t seek or crave recognition, but I believe it is important to say “thank you”. We all know someone who goes above and beyond to make the lives of others better, please take the time to nominate them for a SDSG Service Award.
Nominee must be an individual who resides within the boundaries of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry [no groups].
The activities earning the nomination must have been conducted for the benefit of their community through volunteerism, sports, arts or other community building activities.
The SDSG Service Award cannot be awarded posthumously.
One cannot nominate oneself, one’s spouse or a member of one’s immediate family and no one of the nomination panel may nominate an individual.
Nominations are to submitted in writing on the form provided with any supporting materials. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any supporting material is accepted and postage is always free to my office at the House of Commons.
All supporting letters must describe the author’s knowledge of the value and impact of the nominee’s contribution to their community.
Newspaper articles are welcome to be included.
Nominations must be received by 5:00pm on June 21, 2019
Nominations will be considered by a volunteer panel who will be ineligible to nominate or receive the SDSG Service Award.
The panel may contact a nominator if clarification is required, but will otherwise not contact nominators or nominees on the status of their application.
Applications are expected to remain confidential: knowledge of the nomination should be restricted to those who are compiling the nominations and the nominee.
Deadline for nominations is Friday, June 21, 2018 at 5:00pm
Selections will be made by June 26, 2019 with winners contacted shortly thereafter.
There will be a total of 20 awards presented [3 per township, and 5 for Cornwall].
Successful recipients will be notified by phone after June 26, and before June 28, 2019.
Recipients will be awarded their medals at Canada Day festivities across the riding [based on their location].
